Chennai, April 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) On Friday, PMK founder S. Ramadoss urged the Tamil Nadu government to enact a revised law to immediately ban online gambling and prevent further loss of life.
He said a food worker recently committed suicide after racking up huge debts while gambling online. This is the third death in a week.
If online gambling is not banned, then such suicides will become a daily occurrence.
He wondered if the Tamil Nadu government would keep quiet about the suicides by invoking an appeal to the supreme court.
Ramadoss said online gambling causes greater harm to society than alcohol and the lottery.
Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK Coordinator O. Panneerselvam said on Wednesday that online gambling was nothing but gambling, pointing out the warning note in the advertisements of online game companies.
He urged Chief Minister MK Stalin to enact a law banning online gambling or to appeal against the High Court order that struck down such a law introduced by the previous AIADMK government.
Recently, AIADMK Coordinator and former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam citing the misleading advertisements of online gambling companies stating that players can win up to Rs 2,000 crore along with the warning note stating that ‘there are financial implications for gamblers and gambling can turn into a compulsive habit/addiction,’ said this proves it’s all about gambling.
Panneerselvam said several people have committed suicide in the state after losing money in online gambling and the AIADMK government enacted a law banning such gambling in 2021.
However, the Madras High Court, in a case brought by an online gambling company, struck down the law the same year, saying it went against basic rights guaranteed by the Indian Constitution, he said. he declares.
The High Court, however, said there was nothing to prevent the state from enacting anti-gambling legislation within the law, Panneerselvam added.
