FIR registered against Probo app for making online bets in the name of a fantasy game

July 25, Bombay: The Indian government has tightened the rules on online gambling, making it difficult for gambling apps to engage in online betting. Earlier action was taken on hundreds of apps involved in online betting. Now, a similar case happened in Mumbai where the online betting activity was handled by IPL and various methods by an app in the name of Fantasy Gaming.

A police officer on condition of anonymity said that for a long time there had been complaints about online betting made on the Probo app. After which, a policeman downloaded the app as a client to investigate and played the game himself. After investigation, it was revealed that this app was betting online in the name of the fantasy game. Just by reading the app, one can find questions like “Which team will win the game? India or England” which does not require any element of skill and is a no bet.

Police FIR claims that not only is the app involved in online betting, but it was also not available on regular app stores like Play Store or Samsung App Store. The investigation revealed that this application can only be downloaded by the apk file for customers through the company’s website. At the same time, to register on the application, the age limit set by the government was not respected, in such a situation, there was a possibility that many minors were associated with this betting application . Probo didn’t even get permission from any authorized center or Maharashtra government to play any online game. Interestingly, according to Entrackr, Probo was going to raise $15 million from Sequoia and Elevation Capital last year.

On becoming aware of this application and the people associated with it, the police took further action by registering a case under the IPC, Section 4.a, 5 of the Maharashtra Gambling Act and of Section 66.d of the Information and Technology Act.
