Betfred takes majority stake in online betting company in South Africa


Warrington-based bookmaker Betfred has launched a major partnership with South Africa’s biggest online betting company, LottoStar, for an undisclosed sum.

Betfred has taken a majority stake in LottoStar which offers fixed odds betting and live games on its online platform.

LottoStar has quickly grown into a leading, nationally recognized brand across South Africa after high profile marketing campaigns and its continued efforts to uplift and rebuild communities through its social responsibility initiatives businesses across the country.

The partnership further strengthens Betfred’s presence in South Africa, where they currently operate 53 stores and an online business following the acquisition of Betting World and Sepels Sportsbet.

Betfred Managing Director Joanne Whittaker welcomed LottoStar’s decision, saying: “The business will not only complement our business in South Africa, but also our international business in the US and Europe.
