the Alberta Gaming, Alcohol and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) announced the expansion of its igaming platform, allowing lottery players to purchase their tickets online at PlayAlberta.ca. The organization has also confirmed plans to add sports betting later this year.
Interim President and CEO Kandice machado commented, “The AGLC continues to expand entertainment options for Albertans with the introduction of lottery games on Play Alberta. The creation of new digital shopping options provides convenience to consumers while continuing to generate income that benefits Albertans.
Online lottery sales will allow AGLC to expand its GameSense responsible gaming program on the Play Alberta website. New responsible gaming features have been added to the site since its launch in October last year, including loss, wagering, and daily session limits. This is in addition to the various tools and resources used on GameSenseAB.ca.
Steve lautischer, Acting Vice President, Gaming & Cannabis, added, “AGLC will work closely with online lottery retailers to ensure Albertans never miss an opportunity to play their favorite lotto games – a possibility which has not been available to Albertans until now.
“The introduction of online lottery sales allows Alberta to align itself with most other provinces by offering players their favorite draw-based lotto games. “
Play Alberta is accessible to Albertans over 18 and is physically located within the province’s border via browsers on desktop computers, smartphones and tablets.
AGLC’s mandate is to ensure that the province’s gaming industry is managed with care to maximize benefits for Albertans. Over $ 1.4 billion in net gaming revenue was generated for the General Revenue Fund in 2019-20, which is used to support the programs and services Albertans rely on every day
